Responsible Outdoors

Introduce each principle in original explanatory language and link directly to the organization's detailed guidance and reuse terms.

Follow the local land manager's rule, facility availability, and current guidance; explain why one universal disposal method is unsafe.

Identify food, waste, toiletries, and cookware as potential attractants, then follow the specific area's storage system.

Keep distance, never feed animals, secure attractants, and follow species- and place-specific official instructions.

Noise, yielding, group size, lighting, pets, and campsite boundaries affect other visitors; verify local etiquette where it differs.

Distinguish busy areas from undisturbed places and explain why established routes and durable ground reduce cumulative impacts.

Inspect and clean boots, tents, and other gear where official local guidance identifies invasive-species risks.

Find the responsible authority and check current access, booking, permit, protected-area, and cultural-site rules before travel.

Inspect equipment, remove dirt and moisture as the manufacturer advises, repair small damage, and store it dry for the next trip.
